As you desire to have some information respecting trade
with this port, and His Majesty’s Dominions, I beg________
leave to slate to you, that the importation of Dutch goods,
to this port, are on a limited scale. — We have only
occasionally arrivals from Curacao, of small Schooners. —
There is no direct importations from Holland-, but I think
that commerce could be rendered more active, by establis-
hing correspondence with Holland: There is a fair field
for consumption of articles manufactured in Amsterdam
and Rotterdam: such as cheese, butter, gin in demi-
jons, and in cases of 12 flasks. Potatoes, onions, and
other articles, in the provision line, would likewise meet
with ready sales, but I have to observe, that sales are
generally effected, on a credit of about four months.
Our articles of exportation are as follows: Mahogany,
fustic, lignumvite, hides, tobacco, wax, honey, turtel-
shell, & c. c., but it would require some lime...”
