“...the Blues? Colombians Celebrate Independence Day On Thursday, July 20th, the Independence day of Co- lombia was fittingly observed bv all Colombians in Cura- sao. The Company proclaimed the day a holiday for all Co- lombians in its service, and made lavish arrangements for their entertainment. The day was spent in typical Latin fashion, hilarity and good cheer forming the keynote of every phase of the ce- lebration. In the morning special Church services were held, and a wreath was laid on the grave of the mother of Dr. Posa- sada Gaviria, Colombian Consul General in Curacao. A keenly contested football match was played at the Suffisant Sports Ground in the afternoon, between the Co- lombians and a team from the Surinam Camp, the latter winning by 4 goals to 1. At 7 p.m. speeches were delivered by officials at the tastily decorated Colombian Canteen at Suffisant, after which a brillant netball match was played between the Co- lombians and the Kwiek Club in the Colombian Camp.
