dad, at the invitation of the Trinidad Lake Petroleum Company,
Ltd!, and witnessed the inauguration of the local petroleum
industry by the Governor, Sir George Le Hunte, who, with due
formality, turned the tap at the extremity of the pipe-line
belonging to that company, and allowed the first Trinidad
petroleum to be shipped on a commercial basis to flow into the
tank steamer Prudentia, which, on the following day, sailed
with a cargo of 3,800 tons of crude oil for Perth Amboy, New
Jersey. .
There are now over twenty companies actually engaged in
boring for oil in the island whose exports of oil in 1925 reached
153,527,745 imperial gallons.
