A Legislative Council was then created consisting of twelve
members, and in 1925 the elective principle was reintroduced.
The Council now includes four elected members. The Ad-
ministrator presides in the absence from the Presidency of the
Governor of .the Leeward Islands.

ACCOMMODATION. Roseau. Good accommodation can be
had at the boarding-houses of Miss Shew (Board and lodging,
1 os. 5d. to 12s. 6d. per day ; £8 6s. 8d. per month) and Mr. Jolly
(board and lodging, 12s. 6d. per day ; £2 2s. 6d. per week). At
the Hotel de Paz (Ferreira Co.) the terms for board and lodging
are 12s. per day and upwafds. Rooms, 7s. per day.
COMMUNICATIONS. Dominica can be reached from England
via Barbados or Martinique ; also from Canada and New York
(see Appendix I). The landing charge for steamer to the shore
is 6d. Riding has to a great extent been replaced by the use of
motor-cars, of which several are available for hire in Roseau.

By those desirous of visiting the Caiib Settlement, a
motor-boat should be taken to Marigot, whence it can be
reached on foot or horse-back, the distance being eleven
miles. The Caribs live their own life and have their own
“ King ” who holds sway over their settlement. When
the Prince of Wales visited Dominica on September 26th,
1920, King Coriette Jules and his suite went over to
Roseau to greet His Royal Highness. The present
monarch rejoices in the name of “ Jolly John.”
Permission can readily be obtained to visit lime and
cocoa estates, and many profitable days can be spent by the
more enterprising visitors in exploring the virgin forests
which still cover a great part of this beautiful island.
